The Museum Santa Maria delle anime del Purgatorio ad Arco offers to its visitors with intellectual disabilies, both adults and children, the opportunity to live a satisfying experience of visit, thanks to Museo per tutti, a project, created and realized to L’abilità Onlus with the support of Fondazione De Agostini.
The Opera Pia Purgatorio ad Arco, owner of the Complex, promptly joined, pursuing once again the objectives that have always distinguished the activities of assistance and inclusion of the institution since 1600s.
The creation of an easy reading guide, written in an accessible format, with some educational materials about the Museum and its staff, allows the person with intellectual disabilities to make accessibile the museums and their works, both alone and with a caregiver (parent, teacher, educator).
It will be possible to enjoy a pleasant and inclusive experience with no stress and taking part with other visitors, guaranted the right to culture.
The easy reading guide is written in two versions, using different languages, with the aim of supporting visitors with different difficulties of use. The first version follows the easy-to-read rules, a simplified language regulated by the European Union. The second one is drawn up with the symbols of Alternative Augmentative Communication, that is an association of text and symbols/images/pictograms that allows to communicate through the visual tool, suitable for people who have difficulties in producing and understanding verbal language.
The guide includes the history and description about the Museum and some historical artistic masterpieces through short fact sheet and a simplified explanation of the concepts of Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, to clarify the meaning of the cult of souls. Visitors and their caregivers could get to know in advance the works, the Museum spaces and its uniqueness. The guide describes all practical information to access the Museum, to move inside and to use all the services.
